Saffron is one of the nicer restaurants in Manuka, however it exhibits a plain yet modern decor. The restaurant is clean and the dining atmosphere is small and quiet, having a private feel about it. For a Middle Eastern specialty restaurant, my first impressions were of a typical modern Australian theme.
Our meals were delicious, however my partner (who is Middle Eastern) commented that the dishes we ordered weren't necessarily served in an authentic fashion. The Mezze platter was amazing, yet the Sayadiya was a let down due to it's serving size and lack of presentation. The 'saffron' potato tasted no different to frozen packet wedges. The food is worth coming back for, and the service was knowledgable, however in my opinion it wasn't worth the total price we paid.
Mezze - Three dips, kabak, cheese triangles, mantar, feta cheese and olives, served with a basket of flat bread (minimum two people)
$14.90 per person
Sayadiya - Baramundi fillet baked in tahini sauce and roasted nuts, served with caramelised rice
$27.90
Kafta - Minced beef and lamb with parsley, onion and spices (grilled), served with saffron potato and tabouli salad
$25.90
Interesting article. I find myself feeling a little guilty of falling into your trap of how you get people to comment on your blogs. Besides that I really like a couple of ideas you present.
